Body Politic
In this sculptural installation I placed casts of 12 “normal”  women’s torsos in a circle while facing them on the wall is contrasted the pure white torso of a fashion model.  I wished to express my ambivalence towards “beauty” and its ramifications.  Historically the female body has provided a perfect exemplar of beauty, while today the female image is fraught with difficulty, overlaid as it is with impossible expectations of youth and perfection.  My 12 real-life women have beautiful metallic patinas upon their scars, wrinkles and folds, in celebration of their life experience, strength and inner courage.
